DREAM-bio

Dream bigger, DREAM-bio.

Exploring a design space can easily require hundreds of simulations - weeks of work when set up manually. DREAM-bio takes the design space as input and returns structured, comparable results.

How it works

Can you guess which geometry is best for your bioprocess?

Neither can we - so we simulate them all. Together, we define the degrees of freedom, then generate and run the simulations semi-automatically.

01 · Define what may change

The number, position, type, and shape of the impellers, vessel geometry, baffles - whatever can be varied in your project. Together, we turn these variables into a design space.

02 · Simulate every variant

Every variant is simulated and evaluated using the same criteria: mixing and dead zones, shear, mass transfer and gas distribution, particle suspension, and the risk of cell starvation. This makes the results directly comparable.

03 · Rank by your criterion

Fastest mixing, lowest shear, highest kLa, fewest cells facing starvation, complete particle suspension - or the best balance between them. See the trade-offs instead of guessing.

Showcase · with TU Wien

Optimizing stirrer placement in a Minifors

Together with TU Wien, we varied the number, position, and type of impellers in a Minifors bioreactor and simulated more than 200 configurations to identify the design with the highest gas–liquid mass transfer.

Before relying on the ranking, we checked the predicted kLa against experimental measurements and found good agreement, even at small volumes, high stirring speeds, and high gas flow rates. The best-performing configuration achieved a 75% higher kLa than the base case.

How we validate kLa →
